Golfing in Dubai
Dubai, a multi-ethnic and a stimulating city, has recently become the hotspot of the Middle East. The land which used to be covered with sand dunes has now been replaced with skyscrapers and luxuriant greenery. This cosmopolitan city has not only become a very popular tourist vacation destination, but also a great place in which to play golf at many celebrated golf courses. It has a beautiful clubhouse, a group of white Bedouin tent-shaped constructions, which is one of the most familiar symbols in international golf. The only golf club in Dubai with two 18-hole courses is
The Emirates Golf Club. Both the courses have verdant fairways, very well-placed trenches and water hazards, and wide greens, which pose a serious challenge to the most avid golfer. In 1996, to the original 7,211 yards Majlis (meeting place) 18-hole par 72 championship course, a second 7,100 yard wadi (valley), 18-hole 71 par championship course was added. From the very beginning, the Emirates Golf Club was the home of the European PGA Dubai Desert Classic, which acted as a magnet to the world
